Ranunculus (limited edition 14/30, red)
Morning Intaglio for a pandemic
About this painting: You know how major events freeze moments in time with crystal clarity? Like where were you when X happened? X being things like 911, JFK Assassination, etc. My mother can recall where she was (her apartment in Dallas) and what she was doing when JFK was assassinated. Newly wed and pregnant, she heard the news on TV. Her mom was working inside the Texas Schoolbook Repository building from which Oswald fired his gun!
Anyway, I made this intaglio (hand painted with watercolor) of Ranunculus flowers from our farm in March/April 2020 when shelter in place was just starting. I can still feel the warm gentle sun kissing my face while carving the plate on the back stoop of my studio. I do so love the process of going for a walk to harvest a few things to paint and then hanging out with the plants. Brings me such joy, even when the world is otherwise intense.
Art in Place 2020.
